Here's a little Cheat Sheet

Having trouble picking out the perfect Christmas present for your wife or girlfriend?  We all know that you can never go wrong with jewelry.  Whether it is a trendy piece that will sure to turn heads with, or a classic staple she will cherish for years,  it is important to know what the latest is within the jewelry world.

First, think about which type of jewelry she wears the most: Does she always have on several rings? Has she never left the house without a pair of earrings on? Does she always wear one certain piece of jewelry and never take it off? These are important to think about, because you don’t want to get something that is just going to sit in the jewelry box.  Here are a few of the trends and staples to help you out.

Personalize it:   Anything that is personal always make great gifts.   Many women love to wear their birthstone or the birthstone of their children.  It’s easy for you because all you have to know her birthday month!  Initial jewelry, particularly pendant necklaces with the initial of her first name, maybe her new last name, or if she's a mom, she'll love to wear the initials of all her children; look for initial charms and put them together on a charm bracelet for a cute personalized gift.  A locket is also a great way to personalize.  How good are you going to look when she opens it up and photos are already inside?  Break out the tissues!

If you want to say even more with your gift, why not spell out how you feel with romantic words? Necklaces with the word "love" and rings with short phrases about love, family, and faith are heartfelt ways to send a message.  You can find these styles on etsy.com. For a woman with classic style, choose understated pieces like a small diamond cross pendant.  For a woman who likes a fashion-forward look, choose pieces with larger lettering.

Stack it up:  Why give one piece of jewelry when you can give a whole stack? Stackable jewelry is one of the top jewelry trends this year. A wrist full of bracelets is a popular look, and this works with thin bangles or a row of wide cuffs going up the forearm. Stackable rings are another way to do this trend; shop for a set of rings that's made to stack, or give a few midi rings (rings that are worn on the first knuckle of the finger) that can be worn along with old favorites.

Gold and multi-strand chains: Layered gold chains were present last year and they will stay a focus for the next year. A classic gold chain necklace is a timeless gift. Whether it’s layered with beads or pearls, multi-strand necklaces are jewelry that will elevate any outfit, even jeans and a T-shirt. Classic multi-strand pearl necklaces and delicate multi-chain necklaces are great gifts for women who like a feminine look. Multi-strand beaded necklaces with different shapes and colors are perfect for women with a bolder style.  Tribal & Oversized chain-link necklaces are perfect for those who like wearing different pieces of jewelry that have a handcrafted look and feature
colored beads.

Statement cuffs: Forget about the simple and small cuffs that we used to wear and prepare yourself for wearing statement and oversized cuffs.  A large cuff or bangle is sometimes the only thing you need to make the perfect outfit pop, it also looks great to wear to parties because holding your clutch is the perfect backdrop to show it off!

Don’t forget about the ears: Gold triangle earrings will be very common in the next year, or anything with a distinctive geometric look.  Pendant earrings which are long to the extent that they touch your shoulders are hot too.  If you are feeling super trendy, (and 80’s Madonna like) consider the newest and hottest trend for the next year, the single earring.  Instead of wearing traditional pair of earrings, you can wear just one earring which is large, catchy and elegant at the same time.

Remember that when a woman says either “don’t get me anything”, or don’t spend too much this year”, that is code for BUY ME JEWELRY, and you better make it good!!
